call us: +44 1632 96099 sky patrol home gallery about us contact club details the rambling club is a group for all ages* who go countryside walking on footpaths in derbyshire and the surrounding area. we also sometimes use coaches to visit and walk in other parts of the country. walking holidays and social events are also organised. membership of the rambling club is £5 a year (subject to revision each year) and includes a bi-monthly programme of walks, coaches and social events. anyone interested is invited to try a few walks before they pay their membership. walks on the same day are sometimes graded on the programme. 'a' rambles can be strenuous, long mileage, and the going can be tough and hilly at times. saturday 21st april 2018 the walk first includes durdham down and clifton down together forming a large limestone plateau about 300ft above the level of the city. at its southern edge the path follows the cliff tops overlooking the very impressive avon gorge. we cross the gorge over the lofty and graceful clifton suspension bridge begun by brunel in 1831, but not completed until 1864. the bridge is 1352ft in total length (702ft between the piers), 31ft wide and 245ft above the river below. the chains once formed part of the old hungerford bridge in london. it is easily the most dramatic suspension bridge in the country and commands a splendid view of the gorge. we then walk through the extensive walled deer park to ashton court, a large house dating from medieval times but much added to later. on the opposite side of the park we have our lunch time pub stop at the ashton arms. after lunch we join the path alongside the river avon and also visit the floating harbour where brunel's steam ship great britain is moored. we end the walk in the centre of bristol with time to have a brief look around the city. 6 to 7 miles. leader: robert turton. tel: 0115 9720623. lincolnshire wolds and willingham forest walk - saturday 7th july 2018 walkers leave the coach on the road between market rasen and grimsby and follow paths in willingham forest, a large area of woodland and heath on the edge of the lincolnshire wolds. up and onto the wolds, we first visit the 'ramblers' church' near walesby village with it's old interior and a rather special stained glass window depicting walkers and cyclists donated by local ramblers in 1951. we then follow paths over rolling hills with splendid wide views and have our lunchtime stop at tealby village which has the vintage tea-room and the king's head, the oldest thatched pub in the county dating from 1367. after lunch we drop down from the wolds and follow a path through another part of willingham forest before ending the walk in the centre of market rasen, a small market town where we catch the coach back to long eaton. 9 miles. leader: robert turton. week at whitby, yorkshire coast and north york moors -
